The trails are now closed for the 2009-2010 season. It was not  the best season, but it wasn't the worst either. Good riding conditions came slowly from small snowfalls but were wiped out by rain on Jan. 25th. but not before a great Poker Run.  Again, small snowfalls brought some trails back, but not enough for the vintage ride. The VR will have a more flexible schedule next season. Eighteen inches of snow finally came but were immediately cut in half by heavy rain. Then another 9 inches capped it off forming a snow cover similar to quicksand. The big groomers got mired and the sled groomers could not reach some of their rounds. Sledding became treacherous. The snow finally tightened up but rain again wiped it out in early March.

That's the challenge of operating a snowmobile club in SW Mass. Hopefully 2010-2011 will bring better conditions but there is a problem to deal with . The Reservoir Dam will be overhauled next winter and the bridge will be closed and replaced. State Park Road and East Otis Road (Trail 20) must be plowed for the residents around Camp Overflow and heavy equipment to reach Rt. 57. The W20 lake access will be closed for the winter. There is no other option. The club will do it's best to open up alternate routes. Fortunately, this will only affect one season. The lake must be low to facilitate repairs. Winter work is difficult but when the choice to keep the lake low  for the winter vs. summer, the snowmobilers lost. Hopefully, the W20 ramp will get an overhaul.

Thank you to all of the volunteers and members that made the past season a reality. Next season is the club's 40th. birthday. Please volunteer and help  make it one of the best!
